PREP FOOTBALL: Burlington-Edison runs over Sequim 44-13
(Poulsbo) -- Sequim's football season came to an end Saturday night at North Kitsap Stadium as the Burlington-Edison Tigers rolled into the state 2A quarterfinals with a 44-13 victory over the Wolves.
The Tigers (8-3) will match up next week with the Tumwater Thunderbirds, a 21-10 winner over Lynden.
Sequim (9-2) scored first on a 6-yard Drew Rickerson pass to Michael Ballard, but Burlington-Edison answered with a 27-yard touchdown sweep by Cody Larson, leading 7-6 at the first quarter break.
The Tigers scored 10 points in the final 2:13 of the first half; a 9-yard Dylan Boe pass to tight end Jacob Schifferl and a booming 34-yard field goal by Hunter Torset, giving B-E a 17-6 halftime advantage.
The visitors dominated possession time in the third quarter as Sequim struggled to stop the Tigers running attack after the loss of four defensive starters to injury last week.
B-E increased its lead to 20-6 with 3:47 left in the third period on a 26-yard Torset field goal.
The Tigers blew things open on the first play of the final quarter on a 42-yard Boe TD pass to Jammarick Cavitt, making 27-6.
Sequim's Rickerson fumbled after a sack on the next scrimmage play and Burlington-Edison's Riley Seeger finished a 5-play drive with a 6-yard run to pay dirt as it went to 34-6.
The Wolves stayed poised and marched 75 yards in 6 plays with Rickerson taking it the final yard with 8:04 to go, cutting it to 34-13.
Kyle Reijm scored on a 5-yard run with 3:39 left and Torset hit his third field goal with :49 remaining to round out the scoring.
